There was a guy today who was asked in a contest on stage “Which extreme sport is the song ‘Kick, Push’ about?” and he said “Basketball.” Lupe called the guy out during his performance of “Kick, Push” but the video wasn’t posted to show that. I used to get upset that the DJ’s role in hip-hop performances had been so marginalized, but you can’t get re-interpretations of a song through a DJ, either. The way they played “Kick, Push” and made it so laid back was incredible. (40 MB)
